At Elm Tree, Design Technology encourages pupils to become creative thinkers, problem solvers and innovators. Through hands-on projects, pupils learn how to design, make and evaluate. Children are given the opportunity to explore and use a range of materials, tools and techniques, developing skills and understanding how things work both at school and beyond. From building model houses, designing moving vehicles to exploring food and nutrition, Design Technology helps pupils apply skills from Art, Maths and Science in a fun purposeful way.

Through Design Technology we are able to develop skills and knowledge for careers such as mechanics, bakers, fashion designers, joiners, construction workers and chefs. Design Technology offers pupils a pathway to their own success and opens the door to future possibilities and passions. Through Design Technology pupils learn to plan and adapt their ideas, reflecting on their own and other creations, just like real designers, engineers and chefs.

Our aim is to help every child become curious, resourceful and confident in designing and making whilst fostering appreciation for the designed and made world around them.
