At Elm Tree we have three distinct pathways in which we are able to place children in an environment that meets the needs of all our learners. We have a diverse population of children with a range of needs which may include moderate learning needs, Autism, challenging behaviours, communication or physical needs. The three pathways are:
- Enlighten: our EYFS and KS1 provision;
- Endeavour: a KS2 pathway to support learners with a range of cognitive and communication needs who are working with the EYFS and National Curriculum. These children are usually accessing the National Curriculum below their age-related expectations and need additional small steps within the curriculum to ensure progress;
- Enlighten: a KS2 pathway to support children who are able to access the National Curriculum at approaching a more age-appropriate level whose needs often lie more within a Social, Emotional and Mental Health sphere.
Although our school has different pathways, we are proud to be one school family and we have built a curriculum which celebrates and supports this. All children access the curriculum at their own developmental stage and repeat and revisit as much as they need to ensure that they are able to know and remember what they are taught.
Our KS1 pathway is taught on a 3-year rolling programme and our KS2 departments have programmes which cycle teaching and learning over a 2- year and 4-year cycle, dependent on the pathway. These programmes are mapped progressively from EYFS to UKS2 to meet the needs of individuals within pathways.
